Artist's Description

Inspired by the dune photography of Brett Weston, Ansel Adams, and Edward Weston, I have been for years wanting to visit and shoot the dunes at White Sands National Monument in New Mexico. I finally made it this month to this very unique place.

The source for the sand is not a quartz bearing rock formation, but a usually dry lake bed that contains a great deal of gypsum left by the evaporating lake water. The shapes are ephemeral and ever changing with the frequent wind. We arrived early in the morning to catch the low angle light which accentuates the dune forms.
